New York Smoking-Friendly Private Jet Charter

Jet Charter NYC can search for a smoking-permitted aircraft for clients flying to or from New York, and it is worth knowing at the outset how few of them there are today. We can also make sure a guest with a smoke allergy flies on a cabin that suits them.

Most charter aircraft are non-smoking

Nearly every aircraft available for charter today is a non-smoking aircraft. The operator and the aircraft owner set that policy, and we cannot change it for one trip. A handful of operators permit smoking on particular aircraft. Others may agree to it for one flight if the owner signs off, and many refuse it outright.

So it can sometimes be arranged, but it narrows the choice of aircraft considerably, and it is very hard to arrange at short notice.

Tell us before we start the quote

If you would like to smoke on board, please say so when you first ask for a quote. We will then search only among aircraft that permit it. If it comes up after an aircraft is booked, we may have to start the search again, and on a busy date such as the Friday before a holiday weekend, the aircraft you wanted may be gone.

Please also tell us what you plan to smoke. Operators often treat cigarettes, cigars, pipes and e-cigarettes differently.

If you prefer a smoke-free cabin

A non-smoking cabin is the standard, and you do not need to ask for it. If you or a guest has an allergy or is sensitive to lingering odor, mention it, and your advisor will take it into account when comparing aircraft.

Flights abroad

On a flight from New York to London or the Caribbean, the destination country’s rules apply once you land. Tobacco you bring with you is also subject to that country’s customs limits. Our FAQs answer other common questions about what you can bring on board.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

New York-Specific Patterns We Plan Around

New York has more airports to choose from than almost any other city, and the right one depends on where you are starting from on the ground. Teterboro, about eight miles from Midtown, is usually the closest to Manhattan and has a 100,000 lb operating-weight limit, Westchester County Airport in White Plains suits Westchester and Greenwich, and Republic and MacArthur serve Long Island. LaGuardia, JFK and Newark take private flights too, but each needs a reservation or approval under an FAA order, so we usually start elsewhere. Several of these airports can clear a flight arriving from abroad. Air traffic control delays reach the business-aviation airports as well as the airline ones, and from roughly November through March, de-icing can add time to a departure.
